The markets for grid-connected variable renewable energies (photovoltaics (PV) and wind power) are growing and the share of electricity generation from PV and wind is steadily increasing worldwide. Integration of variable renewable energies in distribution and transmission grids is becoming increasingly important. Today, tools and methods are available to enable secure and reliable operation of an energy supply system and its sustainable planning with large share of wind power and photovoltaics. For example, PV and wind power can contribute to frequency and voltage regulation, their power output can be forecasted with a high accuracy, dimensioning of balancing power can take weather dependency into account and the amount of firm PV and wind capacity during times of peak load can be calculated precisely.

This course looks at important tools and methods for grid integration. It is therefore a must for all those who want to prepare for current and future tasks especially those who want to become or remain leading experts in the energy sector.
